After the earthquake occurred in 1970 the professors of the Faculty of Civil Engineering saw the need to create a Research Center for Prevention, Mitigation and Earthquake Engineering which focus the Japanese technology that has been recently acquired in the trainings our professors.

Nowadays, CISMID has 20 years of bringing academic training in the area of Earthquake Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Planning and Disaster Mitigation at national and international levels through symposium, workshops, courses and seminars which have spread researches carried out by our researchers, professors and students. Also we have developed many projects that have contributed to the improvement of infrastructure in our country.
